Colorism in Pakistan

Through your esteemed newspaper, I want to draw your attention towards colorism in Pakistan. Living in Pakistan; it doesn’t matter how you look, it’s about how people assign meaning for your look approval.

Because of these differences, and due to ignorant perception, people are treated poorly and even regarded as “savages”.

It starts when children at their young age are being compared with their siblings by relatives. This also occurs in school text books, where a picture of fair-skinned by labelled “beautiful” and a darker one “ugly”.

“ A perfect life comes from a perfect skin”

This has made them insecure specially girls to look better than others, so they started using health risky procedures like skin bleaching, laser treatment, chemical peels, steroids and many more.

This is not a bias, it’s racism and this dangerous cultural obsession needs to be stopped.
