Life Under the Bridges

As we all know that Karachi is the mega-city or you can say the overpopulated city. In order to control the vehicles and transportation of this mass level of population the city has so many bridges fly-over and underpasses. Urbanization is the major issue of the city because in ruler areas people are deprived of many basic needs which are commonly responsibility of the government. Karachi is the economic hub of Pakistan.

There are so many families who are migrating from rural areas to the urban areas especially in Karachi, in order to have enough bread and butter which is sometime not available in the ruler areas. When these families come to Karachi they don’t have adequate shelter to live so they start living under the bridges or fly overs. And these settlements under the bridges add expanding day by day. These families are living under the bridges or fly overs from decades. These families are living in Golimaar, nazimabad, shershah, and so many other areas. In order to earn some money those people have acquired many small occupations. Including selling fruits and vegetables, Selling balloon, Selling fish, And some of them take some clothes and give something small but new. And this is possible that because of the continuous expansion and settlements and lack of job opportunities the people do some crimes for example theft, snatching., robbery and the most worst thing beggary Which is continuously destroying and demolishing the image of the country. These beggars include males, females and the innocent kids.

They are doing this Awful act as their profession or occupation which is making it usual in the city. Most of them Are not CNIC holders and obviously When does huge part of operation is not Bing counted in the total population of a country, they will definitely proved to be a burden on the country’s economy and on resources as well. This part of population is not only deprived of the shelter but also deprived from all the privileges and immunity of the adequate life. Can you imagine these families are living without electricity, without gas, and edible water on the other hand they are also deprived of the adequate severage system. Another thing those people are also deprived of educational facilities.

The most problematic thing is they are not interested in having education. Their kids which are also the part of the future generation of Pakistan are not getting education and because of them the illiteracy rate in Pakistan will more raise. In the end I would like to say government should do adequate Steps for their settlements and especially for education. I think they should have separate colonies. Otherwise this illiterate group of people will become unmanageable for Pakistan. One important step that recent government have taken “Koi bhukha na soye” is basically a program of providing food to poor people, and I think this is the huge problem of this population. if those people will have food at free of cost they will definitely stop committing crimes which they were doing to fullfil their stomach. And their life stander will be getting better.
