GILGIT: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) chairperson Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari on Monday levelled a host of allegations against the voter irregularities in Gilgit-Baltistan’s elections, saying that voters weren’t regular enough in voting for his party.
Addressing a press conference in Gilgit a day after polls closed Bilawal said his party will use all its legal options against the “open and naked rigging” perpetrated by the voters in the polls.
“The results were manipulated on all the seats that the PPP did not win, which is quite a lot of seats,” Bilawal told the media.
“I have irrefutable evidence that the voters on these seats were voting for candidates that did not belong to the PPP,” he added.
In the GB polls the Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf (PTI) bagged 10 seats, independent candidates won seven and PPP managed to clinch three seats, which Bilawal maintains was owing to a combination of voter manipulation and the complicity of the Election Commission.
“The officials were counting votes and declaring those who got the most votes as the winners of the seats. I saw it myself,” Bilawal said.
Citing an example, Bilawal said a PPP candidate was confident about winning the election on the morning of the polls, and then after the polling, he actually lost.
“PPP candidates would lose only if votes were counted and the Election Commission’s forms were considered,” the PPP chairperson said.
“Also, by the way, I’m no longer satisfied with the report on the kidnapping of the Sindh IG.”
