ISLAMABAD: Security forces thwarted what state media described as a major terrorist plot in Lower South Waziristan’s Wana by destroying an explosives-filled vehicle allegedly meant for a suicide attack.

Pakistan Television, citing security sources, reported on Saturday that the action was carried out during a timely intelligence-based operation. One terrorist was killed and five others were injured during the operation.

State media said the vehicle was intended for use in a suicide attack and that its destruction prevented what it called a potential catastrophe in Wana and nearby areas. The operation averted significant civilian casualties and protected the local population.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also praised the security forces for foiling what he termed a major terrorist attempt. He said the intelligence-based operation saved the people of Wana and surrounding areas from possible devastation.
