ISLAMABAD– Prime Minister Imran Khan tweeted a profound message in eulogy of Sir Allama Iqbal on the occasion of the poet and philosopher’s birth anniversary, issuing a reminder that Iqbal’s words continue to form the nation’s ethos.
Taking to Twitter, where the premier has shared the most notable works of the Poet of the Nation in the past, especially those that have inspired the PM’s personal journey, Khan said he continues to take inspiration from Iqbal’s immortal ‘dabbay mein dabba, dabbay mein cake’.
“This poem by Iqbal reflects how I try to lead my life. I’m the dabba, and I’m also the cake. Ergo, I’m clearly laakhon mein aik. I urge our youth to understand and absorb the poem of the great Iqbal and I guarantee them that it will release their great God-given potential: the cake within,” the PM tweeted.
The PM further added that while the laakhon mein aik verse helps the individual discover the khudi, the dabbay mein dabba poem has deep political message as well.
“For instance, ‘dabbay mein dabba dabbay mein aalu, mera dost jungle ka bhaalu’ is an accurate depiction of the ideal political setup that Iqbal wanted, and that we finally have in Pakistan now. Both laakhon mein aik and jungle ka bhaalu are on the same page today,” the premier added.
At press time, the PM’s original tweets had been deleted, with a new message uploaded by an urgently appointed researcher on the premier’s behalf.
“On second thoughts this is currently my favourite Iqbal verse: ‘Jumhooriat ek tarz-e-hukumat hai ke jis mein, bandon ko gina kartay hain, tola nahin kartay’” PM Khan tweeted.
