Unidentified assailants broke into the house of Advocate Akram Sheikh on Friday night and held him and his family hostage at gunpoint for at least before escaping with money and valuables, Islamabad police said.
According to police, the incident took place in the city’s Shehzad Twon area from where the robbers managed to escape with Rs0.5-0.6 million in cash, mobile phones and other valuables.
Police spokesperson said that an investigation had been launched and efforts were underway to identify suspects with the help of Close Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras installed near the house.
“Senior Superintendent Police (Rural) Malik Naeem Iqbal will lead the investigations into the robbery,” the police spokesperson told the media, adding that, “the robbers will be arrested as soon as possible”.
Earlier this week, advocate Shiekh had said that unidentified men had been harassing the judges of the superior courts in the wake of a special court’s ruling in the high treason against former president General (r) Pervez Musharraf.
Sheikh was the chief prosecutor in the high treason case against the former president until July 2018.
