CJP Nisar upset over women’s attire during award shows

KARACHI: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar on Saturday expressed irritation at the attire of female stars during award shows.

The CJP brought up the issue while hearing a case on Indian media content aired on Pakistani television channels. The case was heard at the Karachi Registry of the Supreme Court where actors and producers were also present.

“The clothes being worn by female actresses are unacceptable,” he said.

“We are liberals but vulgarity will not be tolerated,” he added.

The celebrities said that Indian content on Pakistani television impacts their employment prospects. Nisar responded by saying that Pakistani television channels are airing highly inappropriate content and directed relevant authorities to produce a detailed report on whether laws regarding airing of foreign content are being followed.

In addition, he also issued notices to a number of television channels and the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA).
