Sugar output estimate hiked up to 4.1 mln tonnes

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan is estimated to have produced 4.1 million tonnes of sugar from the 2010/11 crop, industry officials said on Wednesday, adding there was no need to import the sweetener this year, given ample stocks.

Cotton output falls by 8.7pc

KARACHI – Cotton output, up till March 15, has declined by an annual 8.7 percent, standing at 11.57 million bales compared to 12.68 million bales in the corresponding period last year, figures released by the Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA) revealed. Cotton output increased by an annual 165 percent and reached 72,000 bales. ‘Wheat output can be doubled in a few years’
