LAHORE: Atiqa Odho, a veteran figure in Pakistan’s television and film industry, has shared her reservations about the storytelling approach of the drama series Aik Aur Pakeezah. Known for acclaimed performances in projects such as Humsafar, Pyar Kay Sadqay and Kaisi Teri Khudgharzi, she is currently appearing in the Hum TV drama Neeli Kothi and also serves as a co-host on the review show Kya Drama Hai.
During a recent episode of Kya Drama Hai, Atiqa Odho discussed the series while sitting on the panel and expressed disappointment with its overall impact. She felt the drama lacked freshness and did not deliver the sense of novelty she expects from a project directed by Kashif Nisar.
She pointed out that the frequent use of flashbacks and constant shifts between past and present made the viewing experience tiring rather than engaging. According to her, this repeated back-and-forth disrupted the flow of the story and reduced its appeal over time.
Atiqa also shared that her expectations from Kashif Nisar as a director have lowered, as she now looks for a project that truly stands out and leaves a strong impression. She compared local storytelling with international content, noting that after watching well-crafted foreign series such as The Newsreader, dramas like Aik Aur Pakeezah feel less compelling.
She further observed that much of Kashif Nisar’s recent work carries a tone reminiscent of old PTV-style narratives, describing it as raw and heavy. While acknowledging the quality of such storytelling, she stressed that television dramas are also meant to entertain modern audiences who are exposed to a wide range of global content. In her view, the director’s earlier project Case No. 9 stood out positively because of its modern treatment and easier viewing experience.
