Xi Jinping chairs CPC Political Bureau meeting, reviews 2025 work and 2026 plans

BEIJING: Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, on Friday presided over a meeting of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee.

The meeting reviewed a report from the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau on its hearing and discussion of work reports from the leading Party member groups of the top legislature, central government, top political advisory body, Supreme Court, Supreme Procuratorate, and the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee.

The Political Bureau fully affirmed the performance of these institutions in 2025 and approved their work plans for 2026. According to the meeting, in 2025, the five leading Party member groups upheld the authority and the centralized leadership of the Party Central Committee, effectively fulfilled their roles, and contributed to the successful completion of the year’s main tasks and the conclusion of the 14th Five-Year Plan.

The Secretariat was also commended for thoroughly implementing the decisions and plans of the Party Central Committee and carrying out extensive work assigned by the Central Committee.

With 2026 marking both the 105th anniversary of the founding of the CPC and the start of the 15th Five-Year Plan period, the meeting called on the five leading Party member groups to align their work with the major strategic objectives for economic and social development under the new plan and strive for a strong start. The Secretariat was urged to execute its assigned tasks with high quality.

Other matters were also discussed at the meeting, the statement said.
