Punjab builds Rs. 53 million stadium in Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem’s village

An athletics stadium is under construction in Chak 101/15-L, Main Channu, the hometown of Olympic javelin champion Arshad Nadeem, with officials reporting that around 60 percent of the work has been completed.

The project was launched as part of a promise made by the Punjab government after Nadeem won the Olympic gold medal with a record-breaking javelin throw. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif had vowed to build a dedicated sports facility in his village, and a special grant of Rs. 50 million was allocated through the Sports Department to kick-start the initiative.

District Sports Officer Muhammad Hafeez shared that the stadium, which spans seven acres, is being built at a total cost of Rs. 52.973 million. He mentioned that the boundary wall, jogging track, and an open-air gym have been completed, while a turbine has been installed to supply water for the grounds.

Once an electricity connection is established, work on laying grass and plantation will commence. The stadium is expected to be completed by June 2027.

In a recent development, Arshad Nadeem invited Deputy Commissioner of Khanewal, Maliha Rasheed, to visit the site in his village. She accepted the invitation, stating that the district administration, in line with the Chief Minister’s directives, is committed to expanding sports facilities and restoring playgrounds to help nurture emerging athletes who can represent Pakistan at national and international levels.
