PCB announces two new cities for PSL teams

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has confirmed two new teams for the upcoming season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), sources revealed on Wednesday.

The two new teams are set to be based in Gilgit and Faisalabad, according to the latest information. Earlier, the PCB had shortlisted six potential cities for expansion, which included Hyderabad, Sialkot, Muzaffarabad, Faisalabad, Gilgit, and Rawalpindi.

This announcement follows the completion of the independent valuation process for existing PSL franchises and key commercial assets, a crucial step in the league’s growth.

However, issues surrounding the Multan Sultans remain unresolved. Sources close to the matter suggest that the ownership of the Sultans franchise may soon be up for bidding to find new owners.

The process for selling the new franchises is expected to begin shortly, marking a significant development in the league’s evolution. The expansion aligns with comments made earlier by PSL CEO Salman Naseer, who confirmed in October that an auction for the two new teams would take place, with bidding parties selecting from a pool of cities.

Naseer also expressed appreciation for the role of all PSL franchises in strengthening the league, especially through challenging periods marked by political and regional instability. He highlighted the management’s and stakeholders’ shared goal of expanding the PSL’s reach beyond its current four cities.

Additionally, the PCB is working on the lease agreements for the Peshawar Stadium, with both Peshawar and other venues included in the league’s long-term planning.
