SRINAGAR: Indian forces have intensified raids and coercive operations across Indian-illegally-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, making life increasingly miserable for local residents under the guise of targeting so-called “anti-India elements.”
According to Kashmir Media Service, Indian police conducted a fresh wave of coordinated raids, cordon and search operations, interrogations, and surveillance checks across multiple localities in Baramulla district. The operations, carried out jointly with Indian forces, are widely viewed as part of New Delhi’s policy to harass and intimidate the civilian population.
An official confirmed that during the latest crackdown, many civilians were summoned and bound down under preventive laws—draconian measures routinely used to criminalize ordinary Kashmiris. Seven locations associated with alleged overground workers were raided, and seven more persons were bound down after questioning in the district.
The police also examined individuals booked under the black law Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, including two currently on bail, and processed cases for cancellation of bail for seven others.
Rights observers note that India’s repeated targeting of civilians, even after court-granted bail, reflects the regime’s continued misuse of the law to suppress dissent.
At least 29 cordon and search operations were conducted in different “sensitive” areas, further choking mobility and daily life in the district. Residents reported intense surveillance, house checks, and disruptions caused by heavy troop presence.
Police additionally set up multiple checkpoints, where 244 vehicles were stopped and examined, and 18 SIM vendors were scrutinized—measures that locals say are intended to monitor, intimidate, and exert psychological pressure on the population.
Despite the hardships, Kashmiris remain steadfast in their peaceful struggle for self-determination in the face of India’s ever-intensifying repression.
