Police spokesperson Sanjay Tyagi confirmed that at least eight fatalities had been recorded and that officers were still determining what triggered the explosion. “The cause is being investigated,” he told reporters.
Footage broadcast by local media showed twisted metal and burnt-out vehicles cordoned off by police tape. Witnesses reported hearing a powerful sound that shattered nearby windows before flames engulfed cars along the road.

The Red Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage site and a key symbol of Mughal architecture, attracts thousands of visitors daily. Authorities have tightened security around the monument as investigators continue to collect evidence from the scene.
