Apple set to unveil iPhone Air 2 with major camera upgrades next year

Apple is gearing up to release the next iteration of its iPhone Air in 2026, according to a recent leak from tipster Digital Chat Station. Despite earlier concerns about production challenges, the company is expected to maintain its regular update cycle for the slim and lightweight device.

The upcoming iPhone Air is rumored to preserve its sleek design, featuring a 6.5-inch Super Retina XDR display. Face ID will continue to be a key feature, while the back of the phone will undergo a significant redesign, particularly in its camera system.

One of the most notable changes will be in the camera setup. Apple is expected to add a 48MP ultrawide lens in addition to the existing 48MP main camera. Currently, the iPhone Air includes only a single rear camera, which Apple markets as offering “multiple cameras in one,” but it lacks a dedicated ultrawide lens. This update will allow users to capture wider shots, a feature the current model can only simulate by cropping images.

The leak also suggests that Apple will position the cameras horizontally, distinguishing the iPhone Air 2 from the iPhone 17, which uses a vertical camera layout. It remains unclear whether the iPhone Air 2 will support spatial video capture, a feature linked to the vertical camera arrangement in the base model.

The iPhone Air 2 is expected to offer storage options of 256GB and 512GB, both paired with 12GB of RAM. Pricing for the 256GB model is expected to start at $959.99, with higher storage variants priced accordingly in Europe and the UK.
