China ready to work with Brazil to strengthen political mutual trust, says vice premier

BRASILIA: Chinese Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang on Wednesday expressed China’s willingness to collaborate with Brazil to enhance political mutual trust, firmly support each other’s core interests and major concerns, and jointly oppose unilateralism, protectionism, and hegemonism.

Ding, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made these remarks during talks with Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva while visiting the country.

During the meeting, Ding first conveyed Chinese President Xi Jinping’s cordial greetings and best wishes, noting that under the strategic guidance of Xi and Lula, the development of a China-Brazil community with a shared future and the alignment of the two countries’ development strategies have made a strong start.

He stated that China-Brazil cooperation has become a model for collaboration among major developing countries, with its strategic, comprehensive, and long-term importance becoming more evident.

Noting that the fourth plenary session of the 20th CPC Central Committee has made top-level design and strategic planning for China’s future development, he stated that China is firmly committed to promoting high-quality development and greater openness, which will create more opportunities for expanding practical cooperation between China and Brazil.

Ding said that China is prepared to expand practical cooperation across various areas and enhance collaboration to achieve more landmark and exemplary results.

He urged the two sides to enhance coordination and collaboration in multilateral forums, push for reforms and improvements in global governance, and protect the interests of developing countries.

Ding said China will enhance cooperation on poverty reduction and implement the Global Development Initiative to bring more benefits to both peoples and the people of the world.

China supports Brazil in actively playing its role as a major country in the region, safeguarding peace and stability in Latin America and the Caribbean, he added.

Ding said China appreciates Brazil’s efforts in hosting the Belem Climate Summit and advancing global climate governance, and stands ready to work with Brazil to ensure the summit’s success and inject new momentum into multilateral processes in the climate field.

Lula asked Ding to convey his sincere greetings to Xi, expressing his thanks to the Chinese president for sending a high-level delegation to attend the Belem Climate Summit and for China’s strong support for Brazil in hosting the event.

He congratulated China on its achievements in advancing the green transition, stating that China has set an example for the world.

Lula said that since Brazil and China collaborated a year ago to promote the development of a community with a shared future for a fairer world and a more sustainable planet, the two countries have achieved tangible results in key strategic areas of cooperation, and bilateral relations have reached a new level.

He said that multilateralism is indispensable in today’s world, noting that Brazil is prepared to keep close communication and coordination with China to contribute positively to the peaceful resolution of regional disputes.
