WhatsApp launches official app for Apple Watch

WhatsApp has officially launched its long-anticipated app for the Apple Watch, allowing users to manage their messages more conveniently without needing to reach for their iPhone. This new app brings essential messaging features directly to the wrist, enhancing the experience for millions of Apple Watch users.

Unlike the previous setup that only showed notifications, the dedicated Apple Watch app now enables users to read full messages instead of just brief previews. It also allows for a larger portion of the chat history to be visible, making it easier to follow ongoing conversations. Additionally, users can record and send voice messages, reply with quick emoji reactions, and view high-resolution images and stickers directly on the watch screen.

However, calling features are still limited due to watchOS restrictions. While users cannot make or receive calls directly from the Apple Watch, they can still see incoming call alerts and identify who’s calling without checking their phone.

WhatsApp has stated that this release is just the beginning, with future updates planned to enhance functionality. As with other platforms, all messages and media shared through the Apple Watch app are protected with end-to-end encryption.

The new WhatsApp app is available for Apple Watch Series 4 and newer models running watchOS 10 or later.
