GB Chief Court judge escapes unhurt in gun attack on vehicle

GILGIT: Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) Chief Court Justice Malik Enayat ur Rehman and his driver narrowly escaped unharmed on Sunday when unidentified gunmen opened fire on their vehicle on River Road.

According to officials, the incident occurred near the Saifur Rehman Shaheed Hospital in the Khari area, where Justice Enayat’s car came under attack. Multiple bullets struck the vehicle, partially damaging it, but both the judge and his driver remained safe.

Confirming the attack, government spokesman Faizullah Firaq said that police and security agencies had cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to trace the assailants. “The perpetrators will be brought to justice soon,” he said.

In a separate firing incident the same day, unidentified attackers opened fire on a vehicle near CPO Chowk, injuring four people, including religious leader Qazi Nisar. The injured were shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment, where their condition was said to be stable.

GB Governor Syed Mehdi Shah and Chief Minister Haji Gulbar Khan strongly condemned both incidents. In a statement, the governor said that those behind the attacks would be apprehended and punished according to the law.

The chief minister ordered a high-level investigation into both firing incidents and directed law enforcement agencies to enhance security across the region. He also appealed to the public to remain calm and united in the face of such attempts to disturb peace.

Authorities have increased patrols in sensitive areas of Gilgit as investigations continue into the motive and possible links between the two attacks.
