ISLAMABAD: Pakistan started their campaign at the Commonwealth Beach Handball Championship with a decisive 2-0 victory over India on Thursday. The match, played at the Khedhufushi City Beach Handball Court, saw Pakistan take control from the beginning, securing a commanding win. They claimed the first set with a dominant 26-9 scoreline and extended their lead in the second set, finishing with a 34-12 victory.
Ahmed Hassan Baig delivered an outstanding performance and was named the man of the match for his pivotal role in the win.
The championship, which runs from September 18 to 24, features six teams competing in a league format, with the top four advancing to the semifinals. Pakistan’s next matches will be against the Maldives and Sri Lanka on Friday.
In a gesture that contrasted recent tensions in cricket between the two nations, Indian handball players chose to uphold the spirit of sportsmanship by shaking hands with their Pakistani counterparts following the match.
