The latest ICC T20I rankings have seen mixed fortunes for Pakistani cricketers, with some rising while others faced declines. The rankings, which reflect performances in the ongoing Asia Cup 2025, saw notable improvements for several of Pakistan’s spinners.
Sufiyan Muqeem, one of Pakistan’s standout spinners, climbed four places to 11th with 656 points, while Abrar Ahmed made a significant leap, jumping 11 spots to 16th. Their performances have been instrumental in the team’s success, and the rankings reflect their growing influence in the format.
On the batting side, opener Sahibzada Farhan saw a remarkable rise, moving up 18 places to 55th. Wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Haris also saw a significant boost, climbing 22 spots to 89th. However, former captains Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, who have not played in the T20I format since late 2024, experienced declines in their rankings. Babar slipped two places to 26th, while Rizwan fell five spots to 33rd.
In addition to Farhan and Haris, left-handed opener Saim Ayub and rising star Hasan Nawaz also saw drops in their rankings, with Ayub falling five places to 46th and Nawaz dropping 12 spots to 47th. Captain Salman Ali Agha, who leads Pakistan in the shortest format, saw a decline of 10 places, moving to 67th, while opener Fakhar Zaman dropped to 69th.
Among other top rankings, India’s Abhishek Sharma retained his spot at No. 1 in the T20I batters’ rankings, while England’s Phil Salt and Jos Buttler claimed second and third positions, respectively. India’s Tilak Varma dropped two places to fourth.
In the ICC T20I bowlers’ rankings, India’s Varun Chakravarthy overtook New Zealand’s Jacob Duffy to claim the top spot, while West Indies’ Akeal Hosein remained in third. Pakistan’s left-arm pacer Shaheen Afridi saw a slight dip, falling five places to 27th, while Mohammad Nawaz and Haris Rauf dropped to 33rd and 37th, respectively.
These rankings highlight the shifting dynamics within the T20I format as both Pakistan’s batters and bowlers continue to evolve and adapt on the international stage.
