Netanyahu seeks support for Iran strikes as Trump mulls US attack within two weeks

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu  welcomed “all help” in destroying Iran’s nuclear sites, amidst continued Israeli air raids on Iran. Netanyahu emphasized that while Israel is capable of targeting all of Iran’s nuclear facilities, assistance would be appreciated. He also stated that US President Donald Trump would act in the best interests of the United States, while he, Netanyahu, would do the same for Israel.

Trump, meanwhile, said he would decide within two weeks whether to join Israel in striking Iran. He mentioned a “substantial” chance for diplomatic negotiations to resolve the conflict, which could delay any military action. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt read out a statement from Trump, acknowledging the ongoing speculation about US involvement but noting that the decision would hinge on potential diplomatic talks.

Trump’s remarks came amid a volatile period of heightened tensions. While he refrained from committing to military action, he underscored that Iran’s nuclear weapon capabilities could be realized in a matter of weeks if Iran decided to proceed. Leavitt also highlighted ongoing correspondence between the US and Iran, although she refrained from providing further details.

Trump, who had previously advocated for diplomacy with Iran, has been backing Israel’s actions against Iran’s nuclear infrastructure. However, the US is the only nation with the advanced “bunker-buster” bombs capable of targeting Iran’s Fordo nuclear enrichment plant, a key military objective in the conflict.

The decision on military intervention is complicated by Trump’s campaign promise to withdraw from the Middle East’s “forever wars,” which remains a significant factor in his political strategy. Leavitt expressed confidence in Trump’s instincts, urging his supporters to trust his leadership as the situation unfolds.
