Trump undecided on Iran attack, warns of regime change

WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump stated on Wednesday that he had not yet made a final decision on whether to launch an attack on Iran. Speaking to reporters outside the White House, Trump acknowledged that Iranian officials had reached out for negotiations, including a potential meeting at the White House, though he emphasized that his patience had run out without offering specifics on his next move.

“I may do it. I may not do it. I mean, nobody knows what I’m going to do,” Trump said regarding potential military action against Iran. He also warned that the current leadership in Iran could fall as a result of the ongoing conflict, adding, “They want to come to the White House — I may do that.”

Trump’s comments came after Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei rejected his demand for Iran’s “unconditional surrender.” When asked for his response to Khamenei’s rejection, Trump simply said, “I say, good luck.”

In the past few days, Trump has shifted from advocating for diplomatic resolution to considering military involvement, particularly in the ongoing Israeli airstrikes targeting Iranian nuclear sites. Sources indicate that Trump’s team is deliberating on options, including joining Israel in strikes on Iranian nuclear installations. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth confirmed that the Pentagon is prepared to follow any orders from the president.

During the briefing, Trump dismissed Russian President Vladimir Putin’s offer to mediate the conflict, saying, “Vladimir, let’s mediate Russia first, you can worry about this later,” referencing the ongoing war in Ukraine.
