Bomb Threat Forces India’s IndiGo Flight To Emergency Land in Nagpur

A bomb threat forced an IndiGo flight, traveling from Muscat, Oman, to New Delhi, to make an emergency landing in Nagpur, Maharashtra, on Tuesday. The flight, which had a scheduled stopover in Kochi, was en route to the Indian capital when authorities acted on a bomb threat received at the Cochin International Airport Ltd. (CIAL).

The flight, carrying 157 passengers and six crew members, took off from Kochi at 9:31 a.m. IST. Shortly after, officials confirmed that the threat had been sent to the airport’s official email address. In response, the airport activated its Bomb Threat Assessment Committee (BTAC), which deemed the threat “specific,” triggering a swift emergency response. All passengers were safely evacuated from the flight, and investigations began immediately, though preliminary checks showed no suspicious findings, as confirmed by DCP Nagpur, Lohit Matani.

This incident follows a similar scare on June 15, when a Lufthansa flight traveling from Frankfurt to Hyderabad was forced to return to Germany after receiving a bomb threat via email. The threat was directed at the Hyderabad airport, and the flight turned back as a safety precaution.

This marks the third bomb threat-related incident in just a few days. On June 13, an Air India flight from Phuket to New Delhi was also forced to return after a bomb threat was detected. The plane made a large loop around the Andaman Sea before returning to land safely in Thailand. The recent wave of bomb threats comes just days after a deadly crash on an Air India flight in Ahmedabad on June 12, which tragically resulted in the loss of more than 265 lives.

Authorities are continuing to investigate these incidents, with safety measures under close scrutiny to ensure the protection of passengers and crew.
