The significance of Kate Middleton’s purple dress at Wimbledon revealed

Kate Middleton made her second public appearance since announcing her cancer diagnosis at the 2024 Wimbledon men’s finals on Sunday, exuding elegance in a vibrant violet Safiyaa dress.

The draped lilac dress was both stylish and symbolic for the event.

As the royal patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club (AELTC), the 42-year-old Princess of Wales chose to honor the organization by donning one of its official colors. The AELTC’s colors are “Wimbledon purple” and “Wimbledon green,” making her lilac dress a fitting choice for the occasion.

Adding to her ensemble, Kate wore a special bow tie pin featuring the club’s colors. While her Safiyaa dress remains available for purchase, fans hoping to acquire the brooch might be disappointed, as it is exclusive to AELTC members. With only 375 members and a lengthy waitlist, owning the green-and-purple ribbon is a rare privilege.

The mother of three completed her outfit with nude Camilla Elphick slingbacks ($395), By Pariah hoop earrings ($650), Victoria Beckham sunglasses ($295, now $207), and Halcyon Days bangles ($215). One of the bracelets was adorned with stones in a purple-blue “forget-me-not” color, possibly a tribute to Princess Diana’s favorite flower.

Although this was the first time the princess wore purple to Wimbledon, it likely won’t be her last.
