Israel prolongs Al Jazeera ban by an additional 45 days

Israel’s telecommunications regulator has extended Al Jazeera’s ban within the country for another 45 days, following security concerns. This extension comes after a Tel Aviv court upheld the initial 35-day ban on the Qatari-backed news channel, imposed on national security grounds.

The Supreme Court of Israel has labeled the ban as unprecedented and has set an August 8 deadline for the government to justify its continuation. Al Jazeera argues that their broadcasts do not incite violence or terrorism and intends to appeal the extension.

The ban affects Al Jazeera’s broadcasts on cable and satellite, as well as access to its websites, according to Israel’s Communications Ministry.
