New CNSC Gen Raza begins strategic outreach with focus on national security preparedness

  ISLAMABAD: Newly-appointed Commander National Strategic Command (CNSC) General Syed Aamer Raza on Tuesday called on Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) Admiral Naveed Ashraf at Naval Headquarters, where matters relating to maritime security challenges, operational preparedness and protection of national interests came under discussion.

Upon his arrival at Naval Headquarters, General Syed Aamer Raza was received by Admiral Naveed Ashraf, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General Public Relations (Navy).

The Naval Chief congratulated General Aamer Raza on assuming charge as the country’s first Commander National Strategic Command and expressed his best wishes for the successful execution of his new responsibilities.

During the meeting, Admiral Naveed Ashraf highlighted the prevailing maritime challenges and apprised the CNSC of the Pakistan Navy’s comprehensive preparedness to ensure maritime security and safeguard national interests.

General Syed Aamer Raza appreciated the operational readiness, professionalism and commitment of the Pakistan Navy in protecting the country’s maritime frontiers.

The meeting came a day after General Aamer Raza called on Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Asim Munir at General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi on Monday.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), Field Marshal Asim Munir congratulated General Raza on assuming command of the newly created strategic position. Upon arrival at GHQ, General Raza was presented a guard of honour, the military’s media wing said.

During his visit to GHQ, General Syed Aamer Raza also laid a floral wreath at Yadgar-i-Shuhada and offered prayers for the martyrs.

Earlier on Friday, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced the elevation of General Aamer Raza to the rank of a four-star general and his appointment as Commander National Strategic Command. The Prime Minister’s Office congratulated General Raza and wished him success in “undertaking this important responsibility”.

The office of Commander National Strategic Command was established under the 27th Constitutional Amendment passed last year, which introduced major changes to the military command structure and transferred the nuclear management role previously held by the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee to the newly created post.

The constitutional amendment also established the office of Chief of Defence Forces to ensure a unified command structure among the armed forces.

Under the constitutional changes, the appointment, reappointment and extension of the CNSC are linked exclusively to the recommendation of the Chief of Defence Forces. The amendment further provides that the appointment, reappointment or extension of the CNSC, or the exercise of discretion by the appointing authority in this regard, cannot be challenged before any court on any ground whatsoever.

Field Marshal Asim Munir was appointed the country’s first Chief of Defence Forces following the passage of the 27th Constitutional Amendment.

General Syed Aamer Raza has previously been awarded the Hilal-i-Imtiaz (Military) and Sitara-i-Basalat in recognition of his services.
