Water supply resumes in parts of Karachi after Dhabeji power restored
Water supply started resuming in several parts of Karachi on Monday after power was restored to the Dhabeji pumping station. The outage lasted around 22 hours and caused a shortfall of nearly 48 million gallons.
KARACHI: Water supply began returning to several Karachi localities on Monday after electricity was restored to the Dhabeji pumping station following an outage that lasted around 22 hours.
Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation spokesperson Abdul Qadir Shaikh said K-Electric restored power to the pumping station at 7:20am on Monday. Supply had been suspended since 8:43am on Sunday because of a cable fault.
Shaikh said the prolonged breakdown caused a shortfall of nearly 48 million gallons of water in the city. Areas affected by the disruption included parts of North Nazimabad, Nazimabad, Gulberg Town, New Karachi, Landhi, Korangi and Scheme 33.
He said water distribution to the affected neighbourhoods had resumed in phases after electricity was restored. Dhabeji is Karachi’s main water intake point, and interruptions in power there quickly affect supply across the city.
