Teen girl shot dead after rejecting cousin’s marriage proposal

TOBA TEK SINGH: A 17-year-old girl was allegedly shot dead by her cousin in Nankana Sahib after she refused his marriage proposal, police said on Sunday.

Police identified the victim as Sadia Bibi and the suspect as Javed Iqbal. The killing took place in Barkhordar village, and a case was registered by Baraghar Police on the complaint of the girl’s father, Muhammad Khan.

Police said the accused had been arrested. Nankana Sahib DPO Rana Arsalan Zahid assured the family of support and said they would be provided justice.

Other incidents

In Jhang district, a 27-year-old pedestrian, Abdul Karim, died after being hit by a speeding mini truck near the shrine of Hazrat Sultan Bahu in Garh Maharaja. Rescue 1122 said he was taken to Garh Maharaja RHC with critical injuries, where he later died.

In Faisalabad, Bushra Bibi, 45, was killed and her husband Mazhar Ali, 50, was seriously injured when a speeding truck ran over their motorcycle on Jhang Road near Thikriwala. The injured man was shifted to Allied Hospital.

Separately, People’s Colony Police in Faisalabad said an alleged robber was killed late on Saturday night after an exchange of fire near Jhaal Bridge and Railway Ground. Police identified him as Aqib Akku of Chak 189 RB Rasool Pur in Chak Jhumra tehsil and said he had been involved in 11 robberies.

In another case, Shoukat Zulfiqar, 55, a PTCL security guard posted at the Mohsinwal telephone exchange, was allegedly stabbed to death by unidentified attackers while on duty on Saturday night, according to Rescue 1122.

Faisalabad’s Mansoorabad Police also arrested a maid, Muqaddas Bibi of Abdullah Pur, on allegations of stealing 16 tola of gold jewellery from her employer’s house. Police said jewellery worth Rs8.5 million was recovered from her house in Mouza Karawala.

Meanwhile, Nankana Saddar police arrested a man accused of raping a differently abled 16-year-old boy in Chak Peeriwala. In the complaint, the victim’s brother alleged that the suspect lured the teenager to a room in a government primary school and assaulted him there.

In a separate development, Pakistani researcher Dr Adnan Arshad from Toba Tek Singh received the Best Research Article Award at the International Congress of Biometeorology held at the University of Novi Sad in Serbia. His paper examined cotton production and the calibration of phenology-driven models for sowing and yield optimisation in drip-irrigated arid climates. The awards are sponsored by the Dutch Solco W Tromp Foundation.
