Rain system may bring widespread showers to Sindh by August 2

KARACHI: A weather system developing over the Bay of Bengal is expected to bring rain to most parts of Sindh by August 2, with meteorologists saying Karachi could also see significant showers depending on the system’s track.

Weather experts said the system has strengthened into a deep depression and may weaken into a low-pressure area before reaching near Sindh on July 30. They said several parts of the province, including Hyderabad, could receive heavy rainfall during the spell.

Meteorologists said the scale of rainfall in Karachi will depend on how the system moves in the coming days. If it shifts towards the Arabian Sea and remains there, the port city could receive substantial rain. If it instead travels towards the country’s northern areas, Karachi is more likely to get only light showers.

Experts also warned that another weather system could affect Pakistan around August 6 or 8, adding that it is expected to be stronger and may also influence weather conditions in Sindh.

Karachi has already seen monsoon activity in recent days. Rain fell in the city on July 24 and 25, with showers reported in Shahrah-e-Faisal, Sohrab Goth, DHA Phase 6, North Nazimabad, Gulshan-e-Maymar and nearby localities, while light drizzle was recorded on II Chundrigar Road and adjoining areas. On July 25, light to moderate rain was also reported in parts of the city, including Gulshan-e-Maymar and Gadap.
