Asim Munir, US lawmakers discuss defence ties and economic cooperation

ISLAMABAD: Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir met a visiting US congressional delegation at General Headquarters, where both sides discussed regional security, bilateral defence cooperation and ways to strengthen economic engagement between Pakistan and the United States.

The Inter-Services Public Relations said on Monday that the delegation included Ryan Keith Zinke, a member of the House of Representatives from Montana, and Michael James, a member of the House of Representatives from Washington.

According to the military's media wing, the meeting focused on matters of mutual interest alongside regional security and defence ties, with the two sides also exploring avenues for greater economic collaboration and prosperity.

During the interaction, Field Marshal Munir highlighted Pakistan's economic potential and said lasting regional stability was closely linked to growth, expanded trade and connectivity. He also pointed to the country's ongoing structural reforms aimed at creating a business-friendly environment and attracting foreign investment.

The visiting lawmakers acknowledged Pakistan's role in regional stability and economic resilience. The discussion also covered possible openings for bilateral economic engagement, private-sector partnerships and stronger trade links.

The delegation thanked the military leadership for its hospitality and expressed a shared commitment to deeper economic, commercial and institutional linkages between the two countries.
