Army Chief, US lawmakers discuss defence, trade and investment cooperation
US House members met Chief of Army Staff Syed Asim Munir at GHQ, discussing regional security, defence cooperation, and ways to expand Pakistan-U.S. trade and investment through reforms and private-sector ties.
RAWALPINDI: Two members of the United States House of Representatives called on Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir at General Headquarters (GHQ) on Sunday, where both sides discussed regional security, bilateral defence cooperation and opportunities to expand economic engagement between Pakistan and the United States.
The visiting delegation comprised Congressman Ryan Keith Zinke of Montana and Congressman Michael James of Washington.
During the meeting, discussions focused on matters of mutual interest, regional security, bilateral defence cooperation, and avenues for enhancing economic collaboration and shared prosperity.
Field Marshal Asim Munir highlighted Pakistan's vast economic potential, stressing that sustainable regional stability was closely linked with economic growth, expanded trade and greater regional connectivity. He also underscored the government's ongoing structural reforms aimed at creating a business-friendly environment and attracting foreign investment.
The visiting lawmakers acknowledged Pakistan's important role in promoting regional stability and strengthening economic resilience. They also discussed prospects for expanding bilateral economic engagement, encouraging private-sector partnerships and enhancing trade relations between the two countries.
The US delegation thanked the military leadership for the warm hospitality and expressed a shared commitment to deepening economic, commercial and institutional ties between Pakistan and the United States.
