 LAHORE: Punjab Inspector General of Police (IGP) Abdul Kareem on Friday paid glowing tribute to the Punjab Police personnel who embraced martyrdom in the suicide attack at Lahore’s Arfa Karim Tower, reaffirming the force’s resolve to uphold their legacy of sacrifice, while directing province-wide heightened security arrangements to ensure peace and public safety during Friday prayers.

Marking the ninth martyrdom anniversary of the tragic attack, the Punjab IGP honoured the courage and unwavering commitment of the fallen police officers and personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty.

“We salute the brave sons who laid down their lives in the line of duty and their families,” Abdul Kareem said, paying homage to the martyrs and acknowledging the sacrifices made by their loved ones.

 According to the Punjab Police spokesperson, eight officers and personnel of Punjab Police embraced martyrdom in the suicide attack at Arfa Karim Tower, Lahore, on July 24, 2017. The martyrs included one Sub-Inspector, one Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), and six constables.

The martyrs were Sub-Inspector Riaz Ahmad, ASI Fayyaz Ahmad, Constables Sajjad Ali, Abid Ali, Ali Raza, Ghulam Murtaza, Umair Ghani and Muazzam Ali, whose sacrifices continue to inspire the force in its mission to safeguard the country and its citizens.

 Security remains on high alert across Punjab

Meanwhile, on the directions of Punjab Inspector General of Police Abdul Kareem, security remained on high alert across Punjab, including Lahore, on the occasion of Friday prayers.

The IGP directed that security be further strengthened at mosques, imambargahs, shrines, markets, sensitive locations, foreign consulates and other key installations across the province.

In compliance with the directives, police intensified patrolling around mosques, imambargahs, commercial centres and major roads, while checking of suspicious vehicles, individuals and luggage at entry and exit points of Lahore and other cities was further tightened.

Reiterating that maintaining law and order and safeguarding the lives and property of citizens remained the foremost responsibility of Punjab Police, Abdul Kareem instructed all District Police Officers (DPOs) and senior officers to remain present in the field, personally supervise security arrangements and ensure effective monitoring of all sensitive locations.

The Punjab IGP also directed personnel deployed at inter-provincial border police checkpoints to remain on maximum alert and maintain strict vigilance against Fitna al-Khawarij, Fitna al-Hindustan and other anti-state and disruptive elements.

He further ordered that search, sweep and combing operations around mosques, imambargahs, foreign consulates and other important and sensitive locations continue without interruption to maintain a peaceful and secure environment for the public across the province.
