Pakistan get direct knockout berth in men’s cricket at 2026 Asian Games
Pakistan are among the four men’s teams to secure direct passage to the 2026 Asian Games cricket knockout stage. The women’s event will begin from the quarter-finals, where Pakistan are set to face Thailand.
NAGOYA: Pakistan have been given direct entry to the men’s cricket knockout stage at the 2026 Asian Games, with the tournament draw placing them among four seeded teams alongside India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
The men’s event will feature 10 teams and is scheduled to begin on September 24 in Nagoya. Before the knockout rounds, six sides — Afghanistan, Hong Kong, Japan, Malaysia, Nepal and Oman — will contest a preliminary stage for the remaining quarter-final places. Group A comprises Afghanistan, Japan and Nepal, while Group B includes Hong Kong, Malaysia and Oman. The top two teams from each group will progress to the knockout stage and join the four teams already through.
The women’s cricket competition will run from September 17 to 22 and will start directly from the quarter-final stage with eight teams involved. Defending champions India have been drawn against hosts Japan, Bangladesh will meet China, Sri Lanka will face Malaysia, and Pakistan will take on Thailand.
All matches in both the men’s and women’s tournaments will be played in the Twenty20 format. At the previous Asian Games in Hangzhou — staged in 2023 for the 2022 edition — India won gold in both cricket events.
