CM Maryam reaffirms unwavering support for Kashmiris on Accession to Pakistan Day

• Says July 19, 1947 resolution reflects the enduring aspirations of the Kashmiri people

• Calls UN-backed settlement of Kashmir dispute the only path to lasting peace and regional stability

• Vows Pakistan will continue extending diplomatic, moral and political support to Kashmiris

 LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Sunday reaffirmed Pakistan's unwavering support for the people of Jammu and Kashmir, saying the historic July 19, 1947 Kashmir Accession Resolution remains enduring testimony to the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.

In a special message on Kashmir Accession to Pakistan Day, the chief minister said that on July 19, 1947, the people of the erstwhile State of Jammu and Kashmir adopted a historic resolution in favour of accession to Pakistan, which, she said, stands as clear evidence that the hearts of the Kashmiri people have always beaten with Pakistan.

Maryam Nawaz said that a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the United Nations Security Council resolutions remains the only guarantee for safeguarding the rights of the Kashmiri people and ensuring lasting peace and stability in the region.

She reiterated that the Government and people of Pakistan would continue extending diplomatic, moral and political support to the people of Kashmir.

The chief minister added that Pakistan would continue to raise its voice at every available international forum to secure the legitimate rights of Kashmiris facing Indian oppression. She noted that the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) had been waiting for decades to exercise their internationally recognized right to self-determination.

Paying tribute to the sacrifices, resilience and unwavering struggle of the Kashmiri people, Maryam Nawaz expressed confidence that the day would come when the people of IIOJK would be able to determine their own future in accordance with their aspirations.

Committee formed to probe use of substandard material in beautification projects

Meanwhile, on the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, a four-member high-level inquiry committee has been constituted to investigate the alleged use of substandard construction material in beautification projects in Tehsil Kamalia and other areas of Toba Tek Singh.

According to an official notification, the Chairman of the Chief Minister's Inspection Team (CMIT) will serve as the convener of the committee, while the Director General Monitoring and Evaluation, Planning and Development Board, a member of the CMIT, and another member to be nominated by the convener will serve on the inquiry committee.

The committee has been tasked with inspecting the beautification projects in Kamalia and other parts of Toba Tek Singh. It will examine all relevant project records and review the quality of construction materials, project designs and other technical aspects.

The inquiry committee will determine any irregularities, deficiencies, negligence, substandard workmanship and the use of inferior construction materials. It will also identify those responsible for any lapses.

The committee has been directed to complete its investigation and submit its report to the Punjab chief minister within three days.

 CMIT conducts surprise inspection of Toba Tek Singh Model Village Project

In a related development, the Chief Minister's Inspection Team (CMIT), headed by Special Assistant Shoaib Mirza, paid a surprise visit to a village in Toba Tek Singh to inspect the ongoing Model Village Project.

During the inspection, the team reviewed the quality of construction work and found that substandard and poor-quality materials had been used in the project. The inspection further revealed that the overall standard of construction was significantly below the prescribed specifications.

Laboratory testing of the construction material used in the project also confirmed that it did not meet the required quality standards.

Following the findings of the Chief Minister's Inspection Team, the Anti-Corruption Establishment immediately initiated action. Legal proceedings have been launched against the project's contractor and consultant, while necessary steps are being taken for their arrest.
