PML-N reviews Nawaz, Maryam plans for AJK election rallies

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) central leadership held a consultative meeting on Friday with party leaders to assess preparations for party president Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s upcoming visit to Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), as well as arrangements for election rallies in the region.

During the meeting, participants decided that Nawaz Sharif would address two major public gatherings in Muzaffarabad and Mirpur during the visit. Maryam Nawaz is also expected to accompany him at both rallies. The session also reviewed the party’s election campaign, organisational coordination, rally planning and broader electoral strategy.

The leadership instructed party workers to further step up the campaign through a wide-ranging door-to-door outreach effort and by mobilising supporters across AJK ahead of the polls.

Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs, Gilgit-Baltistan and SAFRON Engineer Amir Muqam told the meeting that the PML-N would run an active election campaign in AJK, adding that addressing public issues and ensuring the region’s development and prosperity remained among the party’s main priorities.

Muqam said the PML-N government had completed several major development schemes in AJK. He also said the prime minister had announced the establishment of Daanish Schools in the territory without any formal request from the AJK government.

He stressed the importance of holding elections on time and described free and transparent polls as the most effective way to resolve the problems faced by the public. Muqam also said the PML-N leadership had a longstanding commitment to the people of Kashmir and had stood by them in difficult periods.

At the end of the meeting, participants expressed confidence that the party would win the AJK general elections scheduled for July 27, 2026, citing its record of public service, development agenda and governance performance.

Those present at the meeting included Prime Minister’s Adviser on Inter-Provincial Coordination Rana Sanaullah, Amir Muqam, PML-N AJK President Shah Ghulam Qadir, Raja Muhammad Farooq Haider Khan, Captain (Retd) Muhammad Safdar, PML-N Khyber Pakhtunkhwa General Secretary Murtaza Javed Abbasi, Abdul Rehman Arain, Barrister Iftikhar Gillani, party candidates from various constituencies, local government representatives and workers.
