Punjab Police tightens accountability as 20 DSPs face disciplinary action

LAHORE: Punjab Police's drive to strengthen internal accountability gathered further momentum on Wednesday as Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Abdul Kareem awarded disciplinary punishments to 20 Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) in a series of Orderly Rooms, while also honouring seven high-performing officers of Sheikhupura Police with commendation certificates and cash rewards for their outstanding services.
According to a Punjab Police spokesperson, the ongoing accountability process reflects the force's commitment to ensuring professionalism, discipline and transparency within its ranks.

During an Orderly Room chaired by IG Punjab Abdul Kareem on July 9, major disciplinary penalties were awarded to three DSPs. One officer was dismissed from service, another was reduced in rank to the post of Senior Traffic Warden, while the third officer was awarded another major disciplinary penalty.
The spokesperson said that in earlier Orderly Rooms, disciplinary action had already been taken against 17 DSPs. These punishments included the dismissal from service of two DSPs, reduction in rank of one DSP, reduction in pay of two DSPs, while 12 DSPs were awarded other disciplinary penalties in accordance with departmental rules.
The Punjab Police said the accountability process would continue to ensure strict adherence to discipline, integrity and professional standards across the force.
Seven Sheikhupura Officers Honoured for Outstanding Performance
Meanwhile, at a ceremony held at the Central Police Office, Inspector General of Police Punjab Abdul Kareem presented commendation letters, certificates and cash rewards to seven high-performing officers of Sheikhupura Police in recognition of their exemplary professional services.

The officers were honoured for demonstrating exceptional performance in maintaining law and order, controlling crime, ensuring effective security arrangements and delivering efficient policing services.
Congratulating the award recipients, IG Punjab Abdul Kareem said officers who ensured law and order, public safety, security and quality service delivery were among the Punjab Police's most valuable assets.
He said the encouragement and recognition of officers and personnel contributing to the realization of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif's "Safe Punjab Vision" would continue in the future, adding that merit-based appreciation remained an important part of enhancing the force's professional standards.
According to the Punjab Police spokesperson, SP Investigation Sheikhupura Ghulam Abbas received a commendation letter and cash reward, while DSP Ghulam Murtaza Dogar and DSP Tariq Ilyas Kiyani were also presented with commendation letters and cash awards.
Similarly, Inspector Muhammad Nizam, Inspector Rizwan Elahi, Sub-Inspector Ghazanfar Aziz and Sub-Inspector Manzoor Ahmad were awarded commendation certificates and cash rewards in recognition of their outstanding performance and professional commitment.
Addressing the officers, IG Punjab Abdul Kareem urged them to continue performing their duties with the same passion, dedication and professional competence to ensure the protection of citizens' lives and property, maintain law and order, and provide the best possible public service.
RPO Sheikhupura Athar Ismail Amjad, DPO Sheikhupura Bilal Zafar Sheikh, AIG Administration and Security Farooq Sultan, along with other senior police officers, were also present on the occasion.
