The remarks came as 14 probationary Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) of the 52nd Common Training Programme, including two female officers from different provinces, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan and Sindh, visited the Central Police Office and met the provincial police chief.

Addressing the delegation, IG Punjab Abdul Kareem said Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif had provided extensive resources to modernise the Punjab Police through IT-based applications, advanced technology and contemporary community policing initiatives. He said that under the Chief Minister's "Safe Punjab Vision", a zero-tolerance policy was being strictly enforced against incidents of violence, sexual assault and harassment targeting women and children, while the entire province had been brought under an Artificial Intelligence-enabled Safe City system extending to the tehsil level.

The provincial police chief underscored that effective on-ground policing, keen observation, timely decision-making and practical field experience were indispensable for probationary officers and would continue to shape their professional careers. He directed the young officers to prioritise the resolution of public grievances at the grassroots level while remaining firmly within the ambit of the law and promoting people-friendly policing across the province.

Abdul Kareem further instructed the probationary officers to acquire comprehensive knowledge of the modern infrastructure, surveillance systems and virtual technologies being utilised under the Punjab Safe Cities project. He observed that field training in district police formations and specialised branches would play a pivotal role in the professional grooming and operational preparedness of the ASPs.

He also emphasised the importance of strengthening community policing, fostering effective engagement with citizens and ensuring the welfare of subordinate police personnel, saying these elements were essential for building public trust and enhancing policing standards.

During the interaction, the IG Punjab sought feedback from the probationary officers regarding the experience they had gained during their training and responded to their various questions on policing, professional development and field responsibilities.

According to a Punjab Police spokesperson, the probationary officers have been posted to various districts across Punjab for six months of field training. During their visit, the ASPs were also briefed on key aspects of police operations, investigation, the Crime Control Department (CCD), traffic management, public service delivery and crime control mechanisms.

Additional IG Training Asim Gulzar, Additional IG IAB Imran Mehmood, Additional IG Operations Punjab Muhammad Ali Nekokara, DIG Establishment-II Suleman Sultan Rana, DIG Headquarters Dr Muhammad Abid, along with other senior police officers, were also present on the occasion.
