Mohsin Naqvi in US for key talks
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi is attending the UN Chiefs of Police Summit in New York and is expected to hold follow-up meetings in Washington. Diplomatic sources say the visit comes amid Pakistan’s continuing efforts linked to US-Iran talks.

WASHINGTON: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi is in the United States for a United Nations policing summit in New York and is expected to travel to Washington afterwards for meetings with senior US officials, according to diplomatic sources.
Naqvi is representing Pakistan at the Fifth United Nations Chiefs of Police Summit 2026 being held at UN headquarters on July 7 and 8. The gathering has brought together interior ministers, police chiefs and senior law enforcement officials from around the world to discuss peace, security and stronger cooperation against transnational crime.
The main theme of this year’s summit is the development of a new vision for UN policing so that peace operations remain agile, effective and people-centred. On the margins of the event, Naqvi is scheduled to meet the UN secretary-general and is also expected to hold bilateral discussions with counterparts from several participating countries.
Diplomatic sources said a meeting between Naqvi and New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani is also expected during the visit. Several other Pakistani ministers and senior officials, including Ahsan Iqbal, Tariq Fatemi, Rana Mashhood and Khurram Dastgir, are also in the US at the same time.
Expected Washington consultations
After completing his New York engagements, Naqvi is expected to head to Washington for talks with senior American officials. Diplomatic sources said Tariq Fatemi may also accompany him during those consultations.
The expected meetings are being watched closely because of Naqvi’s continuing involvement in efforts aimed at keeping the US-Iran peace process on course since the outbreak of the war. This engagement has included his meetings in Saudi Arabia.
Pakistan’s role in US-Iran process
Islamabad has emerged as the leading venue for the next round of technical negotiations between the United States and Iran. Those technical talks are expected to be held on July 11.
That round is to be followed by the next stage of high-level direct negotiations in Doha in the third week of July, after the technical teams complete work on the agenda and the remaining issues.
