Punjab Police says it has resolved over 64,000 complaints this year via the IGP Complaint Centre 1787, with district DPOs personally monitoring timely disposal under strengthened oversight.

 LAHORE: Punjab Police has continued to strengthen its citizen grievance redressal mechanism through the 1787 Inspector General of Police (IGP) Complaint Centre, successfully resolving more than 64,000 complaints received during the current year, reflecting sustained efforts to ensure timely public service delivery and greater accountability within the force.

Inspector General of Police Punjab Abdul Kareem said complaints lodged by citizens were being resolved within the prescribed timeframe in accordance with the standard operating procedures (SOPs). He said the monitoring mechanism had been further strengthened to enhance the performance and effectiveness of the 1787 IGP Complaint Centre.

The IGP said district police officers (DPOs) were personally monitoring complaints received through the 1787 Complaint System to ensure their prompt and transparent disposal.

According to the Punjab Police spokesperson, substantial progress has been made in addressing complaints across a wide range of categories. During the current year, authorities resolved 30,644 complaints related to the registration of cases and 14,802 complaints concerning delayed investigations.

Similarly, 4,674 complaints relating to police services and 14,623 departmental and other complaints were successfully disposed of.

The spokesperson said 3,240 complaints regarding the arrest of accused persons, 5,129 complaints related to recoveries and 3,120 complaints concerning faulty investigations had also been resolved.

In addition, Punjab Police disposed of 1,580 complaints regarding the cancellation of false cases and 1,063 complaints seeking a change of investigation.

Reiterating the department's commitment to public accountability and responsive policing, IG Abdul Kareem advised citizens to contact the 1787 Complaint Centre without hesitation if they had any complaint against police officials, assuring them that their grievances would be addressed in accordance with the law and established procedures.

IG reiterates commitment to welfare of police personnel, families

Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police Punjab Abdul Kareem reaffirmed his commitment to the welfare of police personnel and their families during a meeting with serving employees and their relatives at the Central Police Office.

The IGP listened to the issues raised by police personnel and their family members and issued immediate directions to the relevant officers to provide prompt relief in accordance with departmental rules.

According to official details, on the transfer request of sanitary worker Rameez Masih, the IGP directed the DIG Special Protection Unit (SPU) to extend appropriate relief.

On an application submitted by 10 security constables regarding the Lower Class Course, he instructed the Additional IG Punjab and the DIG Legal to place the matter under consideration.

Similarly, on a request for financial assistance submitted by Lady Constable Sunbal Arshad, necessary directions were issued to the Additional IG Welfare and Finance for appropriate action.

The IGP also directed the SSP Investigation Lahore to examine an application filed by the widow of Shaheed Sub-Inspector Abdul Hameed regarding the dismissal of a case and place the matter under consideration.

Likewise, on a request by retired Sub-Inspector Arif Ali regarding official accommodation, the Assistant Inspector General (Development) was directed to provide the necessary relief.
