Gilgit-Baltistan officials propose easier entry for Chinese tourists
Officials in Gilgit-Baltistan have proposed visa-free entry for Chinese nationals to boost tourism and economic activity. The plan was presented during a development briefing attended by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Chief Minister Amjad Hussain.

ISLAMABAD: Gilgit-Baltistan officials have proposed allowing Chinese nationals to enter the region without visas under an arrangement similar to the one that lets G-B residents travel to China’s Xinjiang region, as part of a wider push to support tourism and economic activity.
The proposal was presented on Monday during a high-level briefing on Gilgit-Baltistan’s development challenges and opportunities attended by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, newly elected Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Amjad Hussain and former Gilgit-Baltistan governor Qamar Zaman Kaira.
Officials told the meeting that easier entry for Chinese visitors could help increase tourist arrivals and strengthen business activity in the region. They also called for the construction of an international airport in Gilgit, urgent action to reduce prolonged electricity load-shedding and measures to tackle a growing shortage of subsidised wheat.
Addressing the session, Bilawal assured participants of his full support for Gilgit-Baltistan’s development, according to the briefing.
