The FIA says it has arrested two suspects in Gujrat wanted in 13 human trafficking cases. One of the accused was also linked by the agency to a 2020 case in which a man later died after being sent through Iran.

FIA arrests two wanted in human trafficking cases

GUJRAT: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested two suspects in Gujrat who were wanted in a combined 13 human trafficking cases, according to an FIA spokesperson.

The spokesperson said one of the men, Zaafran Abbas, had been declared a proclaimed offender and was wanted in eight cases. In one of those cases, the FIA said he had taken Rs100,000 from a citizen in 2020 on the promise of sending him to Turkiye.

According to the FIA, the suspect instead routed the man through an illegal border crossing in Iran. The agency said the citizen went missing on Feb 12, 2020, and that Pakistan's embassy later confirmed his death.

The second suspect, identified as Basheer and described by the FIA as being from Gujrat, was arrested in connection with five cases, the spokesperson said. The agency said the two arrests were made as part of its action against human traffickers.
