Hyderabad police arrest six in district-wide drug, weapons crackdown

HYDERABAD: Police in Hyderabad said six suspects were arrested in separate actions carried out during a district-wide operation on Sunday, as authorities also reported the recovery of weapons and narcotics.

According to a Hyderabad Police spokesperson, the campaign was launched on the instructions of SSP Hyderabad Shahzeb Chachar. The operation included a general hold-up across the district, along with snap checking, picketing and patrol activity in the jurisdictions of all police stations.

Police said checking had been tightened at the city’s entry and exit points, where officials were inspecting suspicious individuals as well as vehicles and motorcycles. The spokesperson said these checkpoints were set up as part of broader security measures being enforced across the district.

The spokesperson added that patrolling had also been increased through mobile and foot teams, with Rangers personnel joining police in joint patrols. The operations continued across Hyderabad on Sunday, with police describing the measures as part of an ongoing crackdown on crime and illegal weapons and drugs.
