HYDERABAD: Four suspected robbers were killed in separate police encounters in Hyderabad and Larkana on Sunday, while a policeman was wounded in one of the incidents.
One of the Hyderabad encounters took place within the limits of Phuleli police station after a citizen reported being robbed in the Cloth Market area by seven men. Police chased the suspects and an exchange of fire allegedly followed.
During that encounter, a suspect identified as Asif Ali was killed, while constable Shoaib Rajput suffered a bullet injury to his leg. Five other suspects managed to flee.
Another encounter in Hyderabad occurred in the jurisdiction of Market police station, where a suspect identified as Ghafoor Maachi was shot dead.
Larkana incident
In Larkana, two suspects were killed in what police described as retaliatory fire. SSP Larkana told the media that police came under fire from suspects, after which two of them were killed.
The officer identified the deceased as Qurban Sanjrani and Yaseen Mahesar. He accused the two men of involvement in dozens of criminal incidents and said they had been booked in 30 FIRs.
Family contests police account
Meanwhile, the family of Sanjrani disputed the police version of events. They alleged that the encounter was staged and said he used to earn a living by repairing motorcycles.
The incidents add to a series of reported police encounters in Sindh in which suspects have been killed during exchanges of fire. In the latest cases, police said four suspected robbers were killed in separate incidents in Hyderabad and Larkana, while one policeman was injured and several suspects escaped.
