Suspect in killing of two constables shot dead in Thatta encounter

A suspect accused in the killing of two Gharo police constables was killed in an encounter in Thatta, police said. Officers said they also recovered a snatched government rifle and were searching for two other suspects.

Suspect in killing of two constables shot dead in Thatta encounter

THATTA: A man accused of involvement in the killing of two police constables was killed during an exchange of fire with Thatta police, while a government rifle snatched in the earlier attack was recovered, according to police.

A police spokesperson said three armed men riding a motorcycle had opened fire on two Gharo police constables who were on duty at the Jam Wah picket on Babra Link Road. The attack left Constable Akbar Ali and Constable Abdul Majeed Mari dead. Following the incident, an FIR was registered at Gharo Police Station.

Police said SSP Thatta Sajid Ameer Sadozai took notice of the case and constituted a special team to track down those involved. The team was led by ASP Abdullah Afzal and included DSP Muhammad Ali Dahamra, SHO Inspector Shehzad Ilyas and DIC In-charge Inspector Faisal Shafeeq Memon. According to the spokesperson, the suspects were traced through intelligence inputs and the use of modern technology.

When police moved to arrest the suspects, an encounter took place in which one of the accused, identified as Huzoor Bakhsh alias Rizwan, son of Amir Bakhsh Abro, was killed, police said. Officers also recovered the official rifle that had been taken from the slain constables. Police said two of his accomplices managed to flee, and a search operation is continuing to apprehend them.

Police sources said another suspect, Noor Hassan alias Chhotu, was critically injured in the encounter. They added that raids were being carried out to arrest the third suspect.

SSP Sadozai said the killing of the two constables would be pursued to its conclusion and that operations against crime would continue. IGP Sindh Javed Alam Odho announced commendation certificates, a CC-I and a cash reward of Rs500,000 for the police team involved in the operation. DIG Hyderabad Range Tariq Razaq Khan Dharijo also announced CC-II certificates, while the SSP Thatta said appreciation certificates would be given to the entire team.
