Motorcyclist held over obscene act targeting women on Karachi road

KARACHI: Police have arrested a motorcyclist accused of committing an obscene act after seeing women inside a bus on Rashid Minhas Road, according to officials.

Police said the incident occurred on June 19 and was filmed by citizens on mobile phones. The footage later circulated widely on social media, prompting an investigation.

According to investigators, the suspect was identified as 45-year-old Arsalan. Police said he had allegedly tried to avoid recognition by wearing a mask and covering his motorcycle’s number plate before carrying out the act. After the video surfaced, officers began tracing him by sharing his images with local informers and reviewing CCTV footage from different locations.

Police said they followed the suspect’s route from Rashid Minhas Road to Federal B Area and later arrested him in Karachi’s Jauharabad neighbourhood. A resident of Jauharabad, he was taken into custody during a raid at his home and shifted to Jauharabad police station. Authorities said a case has been registered and a formal investigation is under way. Police also released a video statement after the arrest in which the suspect admitted to the act and apologised, though investigators said the apology had no legal value. Officials added that CCTV footage from the scene was being collected along with other evidence to pursue legal proceedings and seek the maximum punishment available under the law.
