Earthquake of magnitude 5.4 felt in KP, Islamabad and parts of Punjab

ISLAMABAD: A 5.4-magnitude earthquake was felt across parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad and several areas of Punjab on Monday afternoon, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) and Punjab’s Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).

The quake was recorded at 3:22pm at a depth of 215 kilometres, with its epicentre located in Afghanistan’s Hindu Kush region, the PMD and PDMA said. Tremors were reported in Peshawar, Islamabad, Mansehra, Swat, Battagram, Abbottabad, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Mianwali, Multan and the Potohar region, among other places.

Following the tremors, a Rescue 1122 spokesperson in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa asked people to call the emergency helpline without delay in case of any incident. In Punjab, the PDMA spokesperson said no reports of casualties or property damage had been received so far, and advised citizens to use the authority’s helpline, 1129, for assistance or information related to the earthquake.

The latest quake follows another tremor in April, when an earthquake measuring 5.7 was felt in Islamabad and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
