Rangers arrest suspected TTP member in Karachi raid

KARACHI: Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) said on Saturday it had detained a man in Shah Latif Town who is suspected of belonging to the outlawed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan and of involvement in militant attacks in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to Rangers officials, the arrest was made during a raid carried out on a tip-off. The suspect was identified as Javed Ali Khan, a resident of Swat. Officials said he was linked to Fitna al-Khawarij, the term used by the government for the banned TTP.

Rangers said the suspect, along with other accomplices, had been involved in a rocket attack in Swat on June 7 that killed three civilians. The paramilitary force further said that after that incident, he had come to Karachi and was working to build a network for carrying out militant activity.

Officials added that Khan was wanted by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police in several cases. No further details were provided in the statement about the cases or the operation.
