Sanaullah rejects rumours of any move to replace PM Shehbaz

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister’s Adviser on Political Affairs Rana Sanaullah on Saturday dismissed reports suggesting any change in the Prime Minister’s Office after the passage of the federal budget for 2026-27, calling such claims unfounded.

Speaking to reporters, the senior Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader said speculation about replacing Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was incorrect and misleading. He said those circulating such claims were spreading misinformation and attempting to create uncertainty in the country through what he described as fabricated narratives.

Sanaullah said the prime minister was leading the country in the right direction and had improved Pakistan’s standing internationally. He said Shehbaz Sharif’s sincerity, hard work and commitment to the country had earned appreciation from people belonging to different segments of society.

Referring to the premier’s performance, Sanaullah said his leadership and resolve in dealing with national challenges were being widely acknowledged. In remarks on Pakistan’s global image, he said “Pakistan has gained recognition and respect across the world”.

Responding to another question, Sanaullah said the government had consistently remained open to talks with the opposition. He said that even when the PML-N was in opposition and cases had been registered against its leaders, the party had continued to believe in the democratic process.

On regional matters, the adviser said the lifting of sanctions on Iran would benefit Pakistan’s economy and could create fresh opportunities for trade and broader economic cooperation.

Commenting on the political situation in Gilgit-Baltistan, Sanaullah said the PML-N would play the role of a constructive opposition. He added that the Pakistan Peoples Party had won the largest number of seats in the region and was consulting other parties on the formation of a coalition government.
