HARIPUR: Several tourists, including women and children, were rescued after a flash flood stranded picnickers in the Daur River near Haripur city bypass, according to reports.
The incident occurred when two families had gone to the river for an outing and a sudden surge of water moved through the area after heavy rain in the upper catchments. The improved weather had drawn many families to the site, with some sitting in the riverbed while children were playing in the water.
As the river rose quickly, dozens of people were left trapped by the strong current. Police reached the spot but could not move into the flooded stretch because of the intensity of the flow.
The stranded families tried to make their way out on their own, but were unable to do so due to the fast-moving water. Rescue teams later evacuated them safely, averting what could have become a serious incident.
