A child aged around six to seven years was swept away in a sewage drain near Kacha Stop on IJP Road during heavy rain in Islamabad. Rescue teams launched an immediate search operation.

Child swept away in drain during heavy rain

ISLAMABAD: A young child was swept away in a sewage drain near Kacha Stop on IJP Road during heavy rainfall in the city. The child, estimated to be between six and seven years old, went missing after falling into the drain.

Rescue sources said emergency teams were sent to the scene as soon as the incident was reported. Five vehicles took part in the response, including an ambulance, a water rescue unit, a fire vehicle, a rescue vehicle and a medical response team.

Officials said a search operation was launched immediately to trace the missing child.

Rain was recorded in several parts of the city amid the incident. The highest rainfall was measured in Gawalmandi at 33mm, followed by 19mm in Kachehri, 17mm in Shamsabad, 16mm in New Katarian and 14mm in Pirwadhai.
